Running the Digital Media Server Tests
Note This content applies to the Windows Logo Kit (WLK). For the latest information using the new Windows Hardware Certification Kit (HCK), see Windows HCK User's Guide on the Windows Hardware Dev Center.
To run Digital Media Server testing, you must first manually copy the test media files to the Digital Media Server.
To manually copy the media files to the Digital Media Server, follow these steps:
From the Windows 7 client, locate the media files on your controller. The media can be found in the following location:
\\<controller>\Tests\x86fre\NTTest\multimediatest\sharing\netmedialogotests\media
Copy all of the files in the media folder. If the files are not present on the controller, please go to "Preparing for the Network Media Device Testing."
After you have successfully copied all of the files and folders to the DMS, ensure that they have been shared out. Failure to copy the files and folders will result in test failures. It is acceptable to have additional files on the server for testing.
To run the logo tests and create a submission cabinet file to send to WHQL for logo approval, either run the logo tests from a previously saved device job schedule file, or create a new submission. To do this, follow these steps:
Run the DTM Studio
Open a Device Console window from the Explorers menu.
Select your DTM controller from the drop-down box at the upper left of the Device Console window.
Click Submission.
Select <New Submission> from the Submission drop-down box near the right-side of the Device Console window, and follow the instructions in the Create New Submission wizard that appears.
Choose the logo tests to run. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Select the operating system and processor architecture to test (Windows 7 Client), and then click Next.
b. Select a submission category (Device Submission), and then click Next.
c. Select the appropriate logo program under Network Media Device - Digital Media Server or Digital Media Server Wireless, and then click Next.
d. Select a Qualification Level (logo), and then click Next.
e. Enter a name for the submission, click the machine pool you created earlier, and then click Next.
f. Select I am not providing an INF or driver package in the lower left hand corner, and then click Next.
g. Select Device Not Listed, and then click Next.
h. Fill in the Create New Submission form:
Enter your DLNA Certificate ID. Example: REGXXXXXXXX.
Identify if this device is a Mobile Handset.
Enter the MAC Address. This information was noted in Device Setup. The MAC Address must include the colons. Example: 00:a0:b0:94:5b:fb
Enter the discovery protocol. It should be UPnP protocol.
Enter the device's UPnP UUID. This should begin with uuid: (Ex: uuid: de1dec0a-9021-426c-9548-f714b5e8ef56)
Enter the device's WSD UUID, if applicable. This should begin with uuid: (Ex: uuid: de1dec0a-9021-426c-9548-f714b5e8ef56)
Enter the device's UDN or WPS (Wifi protected setup) UUID, if applicable. This information was noted in Device Setup. The unique identifier must include the dashes. Example: 4a96edf6-0aa0-11de-904a-00a0b0945bfb.
Enter the device's WinQual ID, also known as the vendor ID, used in your hardware ID.
Note Failure to fill in the correct values may cause the tests to prompt you for additional input.
Select and schedule logo tests. You can either:
- Specify the tests to run.
- Specify individual tests by expanding the Digital Media Server and Rally trees and selecting just a few tests: a. Click the Add Selected button. b. The jobs selected are displayed in the bottom pane. c. Click the Schedule button. The DTM will begin launching your tests.
Monitoring the logo test progress
You can monitor the testing progress from the Job Monitor. The Job Monitor is run from the Explorers menu.
When the Job Monitor comes up, press F5 to refresh, and you should be able to see which test is running.
By continually refreshing, you can:
- Observe logo test progress and manually intervene if required by test.
- Examine the results of a job in the Result Explorer and diagnose the source of any errors.
- Rerun logo tests if necessary until they pass successfully.
After the logo tests have all passed successfully, you can submit the logo test results to WHQL for approval.
Reviewing Test Errors
To evaluate your Network Media Device error, you will need to do the following.
Locate the error in the Job Execution Status pane of the Job Monitor.
Click the error. This will bring up the tasks in the Task Execution pane.
Locate the RunNetMediaLogoTests.exe in Task Execution Status of the Job Monitor.
Right-click the Run NetMediaLogoTests.exe and choose View Task Log. This will provide you with a report of the failures.
