Importing and Exporting Data
The Microsoft Dynamics CRM Data Migration Pack is a downloadable set of tools that can be used to migrate data from one or more source databases to Microsoft CRM. It includes:
- The Data Migration Wizard for Microsoft Office Outlook with Business Contact Manager, which automates the process of migrating data from Outlook Business Contact Manager to Microsoft CRM.
- The Data Migration Framework, which can be used to migrate data from any source to Microsoft CRM. Relationships between records of different types can be maintained.
The Data Migration Framework can be used to migrate data for the following entities: Account, Note, Competitor, Contact, Contract, Contract Line, Address, Discount, Discount List, E-mail, Fax, Case, Invoice, Invoice Product, Lead, Letter, Opportunity, Opportunity Product, Order, Order Product, Phone Call, Price List, Price List Item, Product, Quote, Quote Product, Sales Literature, Subject, Task, Unit, and Unit Group. For each customizable entity, the Data Migration Framework can migrate data into default and custom attributes. Data cannot be migrated into custom entities.
These tools must be used by a person with the System Administrator security role in Microsoft CRM. Here is a link to Freaky's blog about this download. And the latest documentation set is available here.

Data Migration Framework (DMF) is awesome. I have used it several times to migrate Act, Goldmine and Salesforce data. At fist, it’s complex to understand but after some training and implementations, it’s not that bad to use. I guess the other option is to use the CRM API. DMF is the way to go. Depending on which information/entities to import, it usually takes a week or two for the migration.
