Oxite, anyone?

Have you heard about Oxite?  Here is a blurb:

===

Oxite is “an open source, standards compliant, and highly extensible content management platform that can run anything from blogs to big web sites.” Duncan Mackenzie’s team of web ninjas worked feverishly on taking the MIX Online code base and making it available to all of our users! We now provide an easy way for agencies, web developers, and web designers to build standards-based applications on our platform. This highlights our platform and great enabling technologies such as ASP.NET MVC to build compliant applications. Even better, we give you the code (via CodePlex) to do as you wish or you can contribute to the project; they also are able to see a real-world example via MIX Online. You can also check out video interviews with Duncan’s team on how it all came together. Read about it here and download it from here.

    Oxite was roundly criticized when it was released late last year as an anti-pattern of testability and ASP.NET MVC. See: http://blog.wekeroad.com/blog/some-thoughts-on-oxite/ http://codebetter.com/blogs/karlseguin/archive/2008/12/15/oxite-oh-dear-lord-why.aspx http://www.hanselman.com/blog/ASPNETMVCSamplesOxiteAndCommunity.aspx

    It was quite the topic of discussion back in December. Just google 'oxite problems' for a few of the better blogs entries on the topic: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=oxite+problems

    While all the comments above are correct, Oxite was strongly criticized by the community when it was first released, it then went through an intesive period of refactoring, re-architecture and review. In conjunction with several internal and external folks, including many who had posted about the first version of Oxite, an update was released in February that has received almost 100% positive feedback. We certainly deserve to have that first release following us around like an anchor tied to our waist, but for anyone who is interested in an ASP.NET MVC application that is in real world use, the current release of Oxite is definitely worth checking out. In fact, it was recently used to run the session site for MIX09 (http://videos.visitmix.com) and the full source for that site is included in the codeplex project for oxite (http://oxite.codeplex.com).

    Hi Duncan - Appologies - I wasn't aware of the good work that had been done to refactor oxite subsequent to the initial release. I'll be sure to check it out in its new incarnation.
