Auscert 2007: Final Update

Well Auscert 2007 is wrapping up this week and I've finished my duty on the Microsoft Stand and this year the event was pretty uneventful if you'll pardon the pun.  We had our usual spot this year and had good traffic to the stand.

Now I neglected to do a day 2 update so I'll update everything on this one post.  On the first day we decided to come up with a roster between the 4 technical folks on the stand.  Myself and Tim Smith decided to take the morning shift which he would have regretted the first day since he had a big night out at the casino the night before or should I say the early ours of the morning.

Most of the questions centered around our Forefront Suite of products so Tim and Lee were pretty busy talking to customers about those products.  Other questions were around the security features in Windows Vista and in particular UAC.  And of course I got some Media Centre questions which always happens at events I'm at.

On the second day I got a chance to get a round of golf in on the lovely Royal Pines course.  Yes I know someone has to do the hard work.  It was my yearly catch-up with an old mate of mine who now works for the Vectra Corporation based in Adelaide.  I rented clubs this time around as I couldn't be bothered lugging mine with me as I was originally not planning on having a game.  And much to my surprise I had a great game; shooting one under my handicap.

The best thing that came out of this is we are going to start a new Security User Group in Brisbane soon and it's going to be run by our friends at NGS Software.  They have some guys based in Brisbane that are going to help get the group running.  We also have a Security Group starting in Sydney but this was decided before the Auscert Conference.  I worked out the details with Christian who is going to run that one.  So watch out for those 2 groups starting up soon.

And finally ZDNet Australia was running around doing interviews of various folks from Microsoft and other companies.  Check them all out here.

Cheers, Jeffa
