NAB Not detecting IE7

I bank with the National. I use their
online banking service to pay bills.

I keep getting presented with this page everytime I log on to get my jobs
done.

nab

Hello NAB web site developers. I am using IE7.

It's up to
Beta 3 now
- did you know that?

Here's my User Agent
String
:

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; Maxthon; Tablet PC
1.7; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; InfoPath.1; .NET CLR
2.0.50727)

Here's an article from the IE Blog -
Internet
Explorer 7 User Agent String
. It was published a few months ago. Have a read
of it.

I've sent you an email a while back but I guess you've been busy with other
things.

Hope you get around and support my browser

Thanks

I'm confused -- you're upset because websites are not yet supporting the BETA version of MSIE 7?

Maybe they're waiting for a final version. Who wants to be stuck writting code for something (i.e. WinFS) only to have the feature removed?

The website in question may already be testing your new browser. So leave your comments until AFTER MSIE 7 is actually released!

If my bank accepted online transactions from a beta browser, I'd be worried. In fact they should be far more restrictive and refuse unpatched versions too. It would be a far more responsible attitude since they are responsable for their clients money.

BTW, IE7 b3 is not yet stable. I have it on 7 pc and 2 of them are crashing quite often and one had to be uninstalled because it crashed consistently.

Gee, every major corporation that I have ever worked with tends to have a strict policy regarding support for or even use of beta software in production environments.

Is NAB on Microsoft's formal beta list? Is Microsoft maintaining "corporate grade" support for beta problems in production enviroments, or is this like all betas, a "we'll get around to it.".

Can I suggest, that you run feedback through the ie team, that if they are going to look for beta support, that they optionally have the ability to have a client force "lying" about it's ident...

Interesting; you want your bank, who basically has all your money (as well as thousand of others) safely tucked away ready for you to dispose of it as you will, to start acting like cowboys and developing for products that are not even in final release yet.  I dont know too many corporations that would do this and I would suspect (hope) that most banking corporations err on the side of caution whenever embarking on something new - especially when dealing with technology which as we knows can have holes the size of trucks in them.  Hey - maybe I can register as a bank and you can give me all your cash to hold on to - I promise I will act negligently and will use all the untested technologies I can lay my hands on..   I like new technologies as much as the next guy/girl, but when it comes to holding on to my hard earned cash, I think I will go with a company that looks before it leaps.  Banks are traditionally slow starters in this space and I would sleep better at night if that trend was to remain..

His point his and that is my point too that future browsers are backward compatible so instead of hardcoding the check on version number it is okay to assume that browsers starting from MSIE 6.0 and up are supported (BETA OR NOT)

Also like I mentioned in my first blog comment it is possible to change the User Agent string in the registry (if you are a local admin)

Now you can imagine how mac users feel. Being "blocked" from using a website when there is no technical reason for it other than a user agent the site doesn't understand. Websites should never associate features with user agents.
