Techmela (MEDC) India

I have just finished up the first day of TechMela - https://www.techmela.com (or MEDC) in India. This year is the first time that MEDC has traveled to India and the event is being combined with 2 other Microsoft events in Mumbai, specifically at the Rennaissance Mumbai Hotel and Convention Center on the edge of Lake Powai.

There are tracks available to delegates, namely:
- Application Platform
- UX platform
- Web Platform
- mobile Platform
- Embedded Devices Platform
- Infratructure Platform

Yesterday was devoted to business decision-makers, and today, tomorrow and Saturday are all aimed at a technical audience.

The XP Embedded sessions were the last three sessions of the day - taking into account the 12 1/2 hour time difference that means Randy and myself were delivering sessions from 3 am - 6.30 am Seattle time! That in itself would not have been too difficult if it were not for the 30 or so different coffee machines stationed all around the conference venue that did not appear to work when we really needed a caffeine boost (brings to mind Mike Hall's eternal quest for Starbucks)<grin>.  Things were running somewhat late today (about 40 minutes) and so Randy and myself did our best to condense our sessions so the audience could get out of their long day of presentations by 6.45pm. A few technical difficulties with the projector made each presentation a little more interesting and unique.

Randy delivered a session on the Future of the Embedded Windows product, and then I followed with a session on XPECMD and Footpriont Reduction in FP2007, and lastly one about the Image Difference Engine. The audience gradually dwindled from about 40 people to about 15 in the last session, but there were still lots of questions.  In fact that was a significant trend with all the sessions and probably contributed to the sessions running over time all day - quite refreshing to see such interest from the crowd. A lot of questions came from some of the developers from our customer Wyse, and it was great to meet up with devs from a different branch. I'm assured that they will be sending me many more questions to the wecrt alias (wecrt @ microsoft.com)

I'm heading off to sleep now with the sound of the start of the monsoon rains falling outside the window, preparing to get energized for my last session tomorrow (on Componentizing Applications), and hopefully we will also be able to meet up with more customers at the "Speed Dating" session.
