Neoware's Image Manager
Found some interesting XPe related info based on an article on Linux devices (though this is not a linux specific post).
Neoware has announced their own version of our Remote Boot technology for XP Embedded, they call it Image Manager.
The basic concept is the same between their solution and ours in that a diskless client machine PXE boots and is 'served' the OS via the network. A huge benefit here is central management of a single XPe image (or very few XPe images) that can be deployed to many clients in the workgroup or throughout the enterprise. You can get the Image Manager spec here (PDF, 2MB). The spec also refers to Win2k images and XP-Pro as well as XPe.
I give credit to Neoware on two things just from reading the press release and spec:
- Their UI may be a little better in managing the images and/or client machines
- They are specifically targeting Thin Clients which is a good move. By leveraging Remote Boot / Image Manager for a thin client you're eliminating the costly flash device from the BOM cost.
