NPR on Donald Knuth

I was greeted this morning to an excellent interview with Donald Knuth on NPR… Did you know that his kitchen is designed using principles of graph theory? Apparently everything wants to be next to the trash can… Amazing stuff.. Maybe Knuth should do a book on interior design when he is done with The Art of Computer Programming  reference books. ;-)

Haven't read his work yet, but after seeing a reference to him in SSCLI's BCL, I've put The Art of Computer Programming in my Amazon's wish list.

    Next to the trash?

Ant colonies, interestingly, end up built in such a way so that three locations are as far apart as geometrically possible (forming a triangle): the trash heap, the carcus pile (i.e. graveyard), and the nest. Nobody knows why--it seems that from the whole colony emerges this consistent structure...

Now, who's right? Knuth or the ants...

Guess I'll have to listen in to find out. :)

Because of JavaScript errors, I cannot view the "Designing for a Managed Memory World" presentation. Could have someone at a look at the website.

P.S. I don't mean to be rude, but the entire MSDN site seems to be riddled with JavaScript problems? Why doesn't anyone take the time to fix them?

Jonathan, apologies for this. I followed up w/ the MSDN folks, and aparently there was a site-wide MSDN problem w/ their javascript files... Seems to have been resolved.

I don't care if it's inefficient, he really needs to remove his bike helmet while inside the library.
