Another managed app... GB-PVR
Someone recently sent me a link to GB-PVR… it is a managed client app that does MediaCenter like functionality. I installed it at in looks cool, but I could not test it as I don’t have a tuner card (or even any TV reception to speak of)… Anyone else used it?
Interesting to note that this and MediaCenter are largely written in managed code… PVR software for the PC is basically a new category that is very young… that leads some credence to the argument that among new client applications, managed code is doing well…. Thoughts?

Are the drivers / codecs managed too?
I'd wonder about the speed of such a thing, codecs might be pretty fast, but drivers? - Anonymous

SnapStream (http://www.snapstream.com) is also running as managed code. It has nearly all of the functionality of MCE2005 with the extra benefit that it doesn't require you to replace your entire operating system. - Anonymous

I have to plug my company's media application! We have a product that is written entirely in Managed DirectX that could not have been built with C++. It has a full skinning engine built around Reflection and other cool stuff that could not have been done if it weren't for the ,Net FW.
Hmmm....I just noticed that the Michael Carr linked to us!!!
Well check it out. It supports a fully managed plugin model. It's V1 so all the usual V1 issues apply in terms of consistency and what not. For Beyond Media you specifically do not need a TV Tuner card so feel free to try it out!
