John Rutter's Requiem is perhaps one of the most hauntingly beautiful
pieces of music I've ever heard. If you think contemporary classical music is limited
to 12-note scales and prepared pianos, try this CD for an experience that will leave you wanting more (review).
How do Naxos manage it for the price?
For something a little more exotic, try one of Anoushka Shankar's albums. Anoushka is daughter of the famous sitar player Ravi Shankar, and follows closely in her father's footsteps. Interestingly, she
is half-sister of Norah Jones, who while
less prolific in terms of output is far more famous. This one is a particular favourite of mine.
