Waveland makes CNN

https://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/09/01/obliterated.town.ap/index.html

www.wlbt.com has videos of Waveland and Bay St. Louis.  They start off in front of Our Lady Academy (my high school) and St. Stanislaus.  When they get to Waveland, they are on Coleman Ave (if you can believe it).  My parents’ house is right on the other side of the railroad tracks.  Right before they switch tapes, is that a part of OLG church – the steeple?

I saw the video too. I think the steeple came from further down beach blvd. past waveland. I remember there being a small methodist or baptist church (not sure what religion) down there along with some sort of building for their meetings, etc. What an awesome video. Glad to see that some of the buildings in BSL are still there.

Thanks for posting all the links. I grew up on Waveland Ave, across the street from the Villere home.

Betsy in '66 wasn't too bad for us and most of our damage was a leaky roof. Camille in '69 was much worse. We lost some walls and had about 1/3 of our roof go. 9" of rainwater in the house, ruining lots of the contents. During the eye we ran across the street and stayed with the Villeres. When we did, we could see stars up through the center of the eye and the glow of Coleman Ave. on fire. (I think the fire started in either Lynch's Drugstore or Mollere's Jewelry which, at that time, were adjacent.)

    Sara,

Do you or ANYONE have a way to contact Sean Bradford? I am with the American Miniature Horse Association and we are desparately trying to get in touch with someone from the family to confirm the status of the family and the horses. PLEASE email me at amelrod@gmail.com if you know anything. CNN keeps playing that clip and everytime it plays I get about a 100 phone calls from people bawling their eyes out...I feel so BAD for them!

    Thank you!

    Rumors from town:

My cousin, Jay Courtault (and his sister Lou) had about 9 feet of water in their homes at the end of Debuc Lane. Jay and his family stayed in the house, then took to the attic as the water rose. They held on in the attic as the roof was torn off.

My aunt (Marion Kennair) had 4 ft of water in her Maple St. (off Wavelane Ave) home. She lost a lot of windows, but kept the roof.

Also: There was mention tonight on one of the news network channels about a special van which had been outfitted as a mobile emergency/medical care station, including an operating room. It's in Waveland and, as nearly as I can tell from the pix, it's parked at the shopping center corner Wavelaned Ave/Hwy 90.

    Alan,

Have you had any luck locating Sabrina? I saw your post on one of the Missing databases.
