What is a Dibbler Anyway?

Clearly my "what the heck is a dibbler" question was a little too obscure as nobody came very close. A dibbler is a small piece of plastic, finely balanced on a pivot, that sits across the entrance to the coin mechanism; right across the entry path of the coin. As the coin enters the coin mech, the dibbler is deflected sideways. Its purpose is threefold;

  1. to absorb some of the coin's energy and bring the coin under better control for its journey through the sensors
  2. to "guide" the coin against the "flight deck" (the sensors line the flight deck and the more consistent the trajectory of the coin past the sensors, the more accurate can be the discrimination)
  3. as protection against "coin on a string" attacks as the "string" gets hooked up in the dibbler

I feel I should provide a diagram but despite searching the web I can't find a decent one and I really don't think my drawing skills are up to it. Anyway, there endeth the mystery of the dibbler. I note that discussion on my post about the energy saving device on Dragons Den is still in full flow.... That's the most comments I've ever had on a post.... :-)

I cannot even think of how I would tag this post for Technorati... Forget it....
