HTC Census - counting Americans

Pocket PC thoughts carried an article about the HTC Census device which unsuprisingly will be used as part of the US Census which will take place in 2010.  The device will be used for this Census by the 500,000 census staff.

Now what astounds me is that you need 500,000 enumerators to perform the census... according to July 2006 estimates the US population was 298,444,215

This means each enumerator will count approximately 600 people....?
