Blogging - how to keep it going.....
We just went through our financial year transition (for some strange reason Microsoft financial year end is 30th June). With the end of financial year comes review time and I wanted to include some metrics and information on my blog in my review.
I noticed when I started looking at my blog history that it's coming up to the 2nd Birthday of my blog. I was quite shocked I'd be doing this for nearly 2 years!!
Most Blogs that I see start and then stop pretty quickly... lots of initial enthusiasm and then nothing....
Whenever I talk with colleagues or people within the industry about blogging I'm always emphasising that the first 30 days in blogging are the most critical as if you can keep up blogging regularly for 30 days - it then becomes a habit!
One way to ensure you have plenty of things to blog about is to note down whenever you have a thought or come across an article that could be worth blogging. I do this in two ways.
1) I use OneNote and OneNote Mobile to record any blog ideas/articles I see/find.
2) I have a Blog Category in Outlook so I flag anything and assign the Blog categroy to it if I think it might be something worth sharing.
This cartoon from bLaugh made me laugh and really enforced the points I've been discussing for some time...
