Where are all the phones?

Surprising stat I read in this months edition of Wired UK – the number of phone booths remaining in Manhattan? 4…wow 4!!! I suppose that shows the scale of the mobile phone epidemic but I was surprised it was that low. I used a public phone booth for the first time in probably 10 years when I was out in Liverpool without my phone and needed to let someone know where to meet me. Without a public phone I’m really not sure what I would have done…accosted a stranger to borrow their phone perhaps.

Anyway…it just makes me think that buying one of those collectible red phone booths may be even more of a smart investment that I’d previously thought.
