May contain fish or wheat

On the box of frozen breaded cod filets from Trader Joes:

"May contain fish or wheat"

Yeah, I was kindof hoping that it *would* contain fish.

  I'm guessing they're preparing for possible FDA rules warning of possible allergens ... it gets silly like this, or especially when your Peanuts say "MAy contain peanuts"

  Well, strawberry-yoghourt does not actually contain any strawberries. I don't know whether it is true but in Germen TV they once told that the strawberry look-and-feel is made from sauerkraut!

  Dying from an allegic reaction isn't exactly a "trivial misusage". A lot of things you wouldn't expect contain peanut oil, and a lot of people would have a fatal reaction to it (my neice being one).
  
  Further, a lot of recipes for common products change daily based on whatever is cheaper that week, so some candy one day "may contain" peanut oil, while the next, it "may contain" cottonseed oil.
  
  Of course, the law is written saying that "if a product may contain peanut oil, it's labeling must state 'may contain peanut oil'", without specifying an alternate wording for those product which would always contain the substance.
