IE8 Beta Expert Zone Chats
After a successful run with the IE7 beta, we’re bringing back our monthly online Expert Zone Chats with members of the IE team. The first is this Thursday, March 20th at 10:00 PDT/17:00 UTC. These chats are a great opportunity to have your questions answered and hear from members of the IE product team. In case you miss the chat, a transcript will be published afterward and available online.
As we saw with the IE7 beta, these chats are a lot of fun and we hope you can join us online.

ie8, regardless of emulate mode, seems to totally freeze when resizing window while on this page. http://hintaseuranta.fi/tuote.aspx/56186 system is 3 ghz q6600 on windows 2003.Anonymous

SVG is unnescesary with already having PNG support. No browser has full support for it anyways so it is just a possible compatiblity mess. But how about JPEG XR/HD Photo format support ? It is a standard originating from Microsoft so it should be supported. And of course some improved search within the webpage and a spelling checker wouldn't be so bad.Anonymous

Hello, A little bit offtopic: I recently published a bug report on microsoft.public.internetexplorer.beta, as one of the articles in this blog suggested if I want to report a bug. The problem is that now I can't find anymore IE8 chanel (or how you call it?) on connect.microsoft.com to see is this bug added to official bug list or not. I believe there is reason for that, but bug reporting is realy made very hard. :( Thanks, Andris PS. Sorry for language if anything. Not my native.Anonymous

@hAl "SVG is unnescesary with already having PNG support." What? That's totally unrelated. PNG is just an image format, SVG is so much more, and is vector-based. I don't know how you can compare the 2 of them... The fact no browser has full support for it is also meaningless. No browser has full support for CSS 2.1 either, does that make its support useless too? Of course, SVG implementations in browsers currently need a lot of work, but you gotta start somewhere. You can't make it complete and perfect in a blink. If IE waits for competitors to have a nearly perfect SVG support, then they'll have a lot to catch up. Anyway, yeah, it'd be nice to hear about SVG support in IE. Will there be the slightest native SVG support in IE8? If not, do you plan to implement it later, like in IE9?Anonymous

Registry bug : Each time IE7 is opened, the value of the "Width" entry in registry key HKUuserSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerLinksExplorer automatically increments by 1 !! Which shows effectively by the pinned Favorite Center width being wider each time IE7 is closed and reopened, please fix this ! Suggestion: Please make IE7 remember the previous Pin status after the FAVORITE CENTER is closed. Each time the favorite center is closed then reopen, it will be back to non-pined state regardless if it was pinned before or not. Many users and me included would prefer that the Pin status would be remembered.Anonymous

@Brandon: Not if I post the question first! Although my question would be a double. 1.a When will the public bug tracking be available to EVERYONE in the public. 1.b Can we get some written level of commitment to keep it open PERMANENTLY! Opening it serves no purpose if there is any intention to shut it down. but you are right on the answer. if the answers aren't satisfactory then there is no point in continuing the chat. The WebKit team would love to provide public bug tracking for you.... in fact they do already! Thus if you find a bug, you can file a report! What a novel idea! It really has no sense to try to track down and create a testcase and then report it (if at all possible in that joke of semi-private Connect site) to see it later just closed down and all the bug reports sent to the bin like it did happen with IE7. I'm not gonna do your dirty job just to get nothing in return. Unless the commitment to set it the Connect site as a permanent way to track the IE bugs I don't think that you will get too much love after the way that you fooled us with IE7.Anonymous

Open a public bug tracking site (fully, totally, 100% open to everyone, that is the meaning of public) so that we can file and track bugs in IE. As a developer I currently have ZERO interest in filing a bug report in Connect (even if I could! (cause I can't!)) because until MS says that they are going to keep it open, I know that I would spend hours filing reports, only to have them thrown out the second IE8 ships. THIS IS NOT HOW TO WIN OVER YOUR DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY! TREAT US WITH SOME RESPECT! WE ARE YOUR ABSOLUTE BEST QUALITIY ASSURANCE TEAM THAT Internet Explorer COULD EVER HAVE!!!Anonymous

Does anyone know a url where people can rally up support for SVG? I think that SVG is a brilliant tool, and have no idea why it is not in Internet Explorer. When creating internal websites for my company, I am tempted to say "Use anything but IE" so that I can use SVG.Anonymous

For the sake of your customers and the internet, please let your user base see SVG graphics. Consider improving the attitude people have towards Microsoft (largely because of IE). Small intranets can say "Anything but IE", but what really happens is that the large companies who make the interesting products will choose the lowest common denominator when it comes to graphics. Not having SVG is a huge stumbling block, and I don't see it as a direct competitor to Silverlight, which attempts to be much, much more. Incorporating SVG to allow simple graphs and clickable diagrams generated directly from xml data sources via XSLT would be an incredible boon to web developers everywhere. Until then, its FF for me.
