Microsoft 365 Copilot adoption community in Viva Engage
Network admins and corporate communicators can enable a Viva Engage community to directly support adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot. Copilot in Viva Engage isn't required to set up or use this community, and your own Copilot settings don't affect its operation.
The Microsoft 365 Copilot adoption community makes it easier for users to ask questions, seek support from peers and IT admins, and learn best practices for Copilot.
Network admins and corporate communicators can access configuration settings through a discoverable banner in their home feed. If you're a network admin or corporate communicator of an eligible tenant and don't see the banner in your home feed, find the configuration settings in the Viva Engage Admin center.
Note
The Microsoft 365 Copilot adoption community is available to Viva Engage tenants with Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses through one of the following service plans:
- Microsoft Copilot with Graph-grounded chat
- Microsoft 365 Copilot in Productivity App
- Microsoft 365 Copilot in Microsoft Teams.
In the Viva Engage admin home page, you see a new pane titled Deploying Copilot in your network?. Select Learn more to enable entry to the Copilot community feature set.
Configure your adoption community
You have two options for creating a Copilot adoption community in Viva Engage.
Launch early adopters: Accept the configuration presets to create a new community. The new community type includes onboarding prompts, a setup checklist, and a community template.
Apply adoption features to an existing community: This option adds the new features (setup checklist, suggested members and content, pinning resources and adding experts) to your existing community without impacting current content and customizations.
Copilot community setup resembles any other community. The Copilot community template reduces setup work and ongoing community management. After setup completion, the community includes a cover photo, description, and an onboarding checklist that is specific to this community. Admins can add customizations.
Note
To create this community, Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses must be present on the tenant. You don't need to assign licenses to the network admin or corporate communicator who's setting up the community.
Explore tools to build membership, content, and engagement
The Copilot community experience includes the following onboarding checklist to drive engagement. After you set up the community, you can disable features as needed.
Pin resources enables admins to add links to important or useful information. A pane on the right side of the page enables additions when the community is live.
Review suggested content offers a quick way to introduce Copilot capabilities and has various quick tips and tricks available for members. All content is editable before posting. The suggested content aligns with content from the Viva Amplify communications campaign, available through the Copilot Deployment Kit. Learn more here.
Add a community expert enables admins to select community members as experts for the community. Search by their name. People selected as experts must be marked as an expert using the Introducing community experts panel. A pane on the right side of the page enables additions when the community is live.
Write a Post helps members write their posts. Admins control availability for the Copilot writing assistant at the network level.
Add members dynamically grows your community by suggesting new members as your organization allots or assigns Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses. It helps community admins bring the right people into the community to learn and share.
Create a new Copilot community
For Viva Engage admins, the Home page displays introductory content about the Copilot upgrade.
If your network doesn't have the Copilot community set up, and Copilot licensing is in place, take the following steps:
Under the admin banner in Viva Engage, select Launch early adopters.
In the Create a new community dialog, choose the options you want, or accept the defaults. You can also add new members in this page or do so after enabling the community.
When you're finished, select Create.
Convert an existing community to Copilot
You can convert an existing community in your network to act as the Copilot community. When community members acquire the Microsoft 365 Copilot license, they appear as members in the Copilot-converted community.
Note
You can run a single community in your network as a Copilot community.
Under the banner image in Viva Engage, select Apply adoption features to an existing community.
In the Identify community dialog, search for the community by entering its name. The dialog refreshes to show matches for what you enter.
After entering the correct community name, select Confirm.
Apply the collective intelligence of your organization
A Copilot adoption community enables its members to apply their organization's knowledge to find answers and connect with experts. When they enter a question, members see "Similar questions" from across the network, including from Answers and from other communities to which they have access.
The process helps users find what they need without producing duplicate queries. The resulting efficiency allows community admins and subject matter experts to pursue other efforts while community members get the information they seek. It also promotes more accurate and more detailed questions.
Build your Copilot adoption community with information resources
Community admins can proactively address questions by uploading informational documents, like FAQs, through the Answers Intelligent Importer. From the imported content, Intelligent Importer generates question-and-answer pairs. Admins can review and edit the output before posting.
Select the import tool in the Intelligent Importer pane, and load a PDF, Doc file, or text file. The AI model analyzes the imported document and produces a set of question-answer pairs.
