Examine Windows 365 editions

Completed

Windows 365 is available in the following editions:

  • Windows 365 Business
  • Windows 365 Enterprise
  • Windows 365 Government
  • Windows 365 Frontline

The general features of each Windows 365 edition are explained here:

Windows 365 Business is for use by companies with up to 300 seats who want a simple way to buy, deploy, and manage Windows 10 or Windows 11 Cloud PCs using a Microsoft Hosted Network. You can remotely manage Windows 365 Business Cloud PCs by using the Microsoft 365 admin center or windows365.microsoft.com. Each supports several remote management actions. Windows 365 Business can join Microsoft Entra ID but doesn't support a virtual network connection (VNC) to a corporate network.

Tip

Windows 365 Business Cloud PCs can also be enrolled in Microsoft Intune if the assigned user has an Intune license, however, the Cloud PCs won't be visible in the Windows 365 pane in Intune. Application deployment, Windows Update configuration, and limited device management capabilities are available for Windows 365 Business Cloud PCs when enrolled in Intune. The procedure for enrolling Windows 365 Business Cloud PCs in Intune is the same as enrolling physical Windows machines. For more information, see: Enroll Windows 10/11 devices in Intune | Microsoft Learn.

Windows 365 Business is a subscription-based service, with no licensing prerequisites. You can buy Windows 365 Business subscriptions from the Windows 365 products site or the Microsoft 365 admin center. After you buy a subscription, you can use the Microsoft 365 admin center or windows365.microsoft.com to assign licenses to users in your organization.

For more information, see Getting started with Windows 365 Business and Cloud PCs.

Windows 365 Enterprise is for larger companies who want unlimited licenses for creating Cloud PCs. It provides the option to create Cloud PCs based on either gallery or custom images, connection to existing corporate network (or Microsoft Hosted Network), more management options than Windows 365 Business, and full integration with Microsoft Intune. Windows 365 Enterprise supports joining Microsoft Entra ID with or without virtual network support and Hybrid Microsoft Entra ID with virtual network support.

To use Windows 365 Enterprise, each user must be licensed for Windows 11 Enterprise or Windows 10 Enterprise, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID P1. You can buy Windows 365 Enterprise subscriptions through your Microsoft account representative, the Windows 365 products site, or a Cloud Solution Provider (CSP).

A Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) authorized auditor assessed that Windows 365 Enterprise meets FedRAMP requirements at data centers within the Continental US. With Windows 365 Enterprise, Cloud PCs are provisioned in an Azure Commercial data center, and meet FedRAMP requirements when they're properly configured and used within the Continental United States.

Windows 365 Government provides Cloud PCs for government agencies or public entities that qualify to use services hosted in a regulated US Government Community Cloud (GCC and GCC High). It meets federal, state, and local US government needs to securely stream Windows apps, data, content, and settings on Cloud PCs from regulated clouds. The services in the GCC and GCC High clouds must meet specific requirements and pass rigorous audit reviews before customers are allowed to use them.

The Windows 365 Government (GCC) offering supports FedRAMP High, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations Supplement (DFARS) and DISA Level 2 Security Requirements and complies with Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS), and IRS 1075. For Windows 365 Government (GCC) Cloud PCs, users' identity is in the public cloud while the underlying Cloud PC resources and content are secured in a regulated US government cloud.

The Windows 365 Government (GCC High) offering supports FedRAMP High, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and DFARS. For Windows 365 Government (GCC High) Cloud PCs, users' identity, underlying Cloud PC resources, and content are secured in a regulated US government cloud.

Windows 365 Government is available in the United States only for GCC and GCC High customers, and contractors (in US entities) holding or processing data on behalf of US government agencies. To use Windows 365 Government, each user must be licensed for Windows 11 Enterprise or Windows 10 Enterprise, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID P1. Customers can purchase Windows 365 Government through the following channels:

Windows 365 Frontline helps organizations save costs by providing a single license to provision up to three Cloud PCs for nonconcurrent use by any three users. So instead of a license for each employee, the organization only needs to get enough licenses for the maximum number of employees that are active at the same time. It's intended for cases where the user needs Cloud PC access for a limited time per day.

Windows 365 Frontline is offered as a monthly subscription. Licenses can be purchased through the Microsoft 365 admin center, your Microsoft account manager, or the Windows 365 Sales Team. To use Windows 365 Frontline, each user must be licensed for Windows 11 Enterprise or Windows 10 Enterprise, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID P1. Windows 365 Frontline Cloud PCs are provisioned and managed using Microsoft Intune.
