Recording Event Data for a Kinect-Enabled Application [Kinect Studio]

Kinect for Windows 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8

One of the primary uses of Kinect Studio is to record data from the Kinect. Kinect Studio can record all color and depth data. Recording data automatically puts Kinect Studio in preview mode.

To record data from the Kinect

  1. In the stream selection grid to the left of the timeline, select the data streams that you want to record from the Record column.
  2. On the toolbar, click Record. If there is data opened currently, Kinect Studio will prompt you to save or discard the opened data. For more information about saving data, see Saving Event Data for a Kinect-Enabled Application [Kinect Studio].
  3. When you are finished recording, click Stop. Kinect Studio will switch automatically from live preview mode to playback mode.

You can save recorded data to an event data (.xed) file. For more information, see Saving Event Data for a Kinect-Enabled Application [Kinect Studio]. All sensor settings can be changed by an application during playback or recording.

Note

There is a known issue regarding toggling the skeleton stream causing ongoing recording/playback/live preview to stop.

There is a known issue regarding recovering a recording if Kinect Studio crashes or hangs.
