Summary of Logging Functions

Note  This content applies to the Windows Logo Kit (WLK). For the latest information using the new Windows Hardware Certification Kit (HCK), see Windows HCK User's Guide on the Windows Hardware Dev Center.

The functionality of DTM Logger can be loosely divided into the following categories:

  • Topology configuration manages how log devices connect and controls how they are organized. This configuration enables you to pass a configuration string to a log device to describe a desired topology for a test run.

  • Test case management manages all test cases in a test run, including:

    • Marking the start and end of each test case.
    • Creating and closing the test context.
    • Setting up auto-logging by setting test case-specific and test computer-specific information.
    • Generating the pass-fail results for the test case.
  • Program flow control checks and handles test errors in a consistent way. This control makes it possible to triage test failures automatically.

  • Tracing creates and logs trace messages and converts them to XML.
