Preparing for the Smart Card Reader Testing

Note  This content applies to the Windows Logo Kit (WLK). For the latest information using the new Windows Hardware Certification Kit (HCK), see Windows HCK User's Guide on the Windows Hardware Dev Center.

Before running the tests, you must configure the system and install the operating system. This section summarizes the related procedures.

For a complete list of required hardware, software, and tester knowledge, see the Smart Card Reader Testing Overview.

Many of the tests in the Windows Driver Kit require a test system to restart (often more than once) to complete a test run. To facilitate this DTM will configure the client to automatically login using the DTMLLUAdminUser. This happens when you first create your submission. DTM will also turn off workstation locking and prevent the machine from automatically hibernating/sleeping. If you wish to Remote Desktop into the client after starting a submission, please use DTMLLUAdminUser.

Test system configuration

  1. Install the appropriate Microsoft Windows operating system.

  2. Install the test device and any accessories.

If the test device is connected through the USB port:

    1. Connect the USB 2.0 controller to the high-speed USB 2.0 hub.
    2. Connect the test device to the downstream port of the high-speed USB 2.0 hub.

Note  Do not connect the USB test device directly to the root hub of the USB 2.0 controller.

  3. Install the device driver that is supplied by the manufacturer, if necessary.

  4. Install DTM Client.

  5. Configure the machine for testing in DTM Studio.

Add the machine to a machine pool.

    Deploy the "WDK\ConfigureSmart CardReader" dimension.
