Wiki Life: Smart Tags

Last week I blogged about Ownership and Credibility. In that post I talked about tagging articles that require more work, with "Needs Work", or "Work In Progress".

In the blog comments, Pituach raised an interesting point about putting a notice in the content of the article, as well as tagging it, if the article is a work in progress. His opinion is that people don't always read the comments, so by doing this, readers are clearly shown the article is incomplete. I agree, that this would be a good visual indicator.

My question here is, is this something we should be automating? For example, for certain tags, "Work in progress", "Needs work", "stub", "Needs additional information",  an automatic message is inserted into the top of the article, as per the mock screen shot below.

What are your thoughts?

    I would vote for this feature Matt. Unless the creator does not finds this as offensive and person adding value to article does in correct way.

    In the past I have copied the HTML in the article Ed linked into my article to make it clear that the article was not yet finished. Makes it very obvious and is very professional looking. We need to make sure that Wiki is easily found.

    I think that's a good practise, but an automated system would make a lot of sense. I wonder if we can inject a some JavaScript into the page that adds "alerts" based on tags?

    this is a great idea, to automating several tags to display in the content! I loved it.
    It also has another important ulterior motive. People will get used to working with the same tags, and not invent their own tags. This will reduce the number of tags in the system ( which was another Discussion we have).

    I too find it very interesting feature, most of the times its very difficult to finish any articles in single shot and only alternative to let others know about its incompleteness is to put a note in comment section.
