The New Phone in my life
Not an iPhone, not a Palm Pre, not even an Android phone….nope, it’s the one I’ve been waiting for the – the HTC Snap. Normally I’d get a review on here within a days of getting the device but I’ve had this one for a month or so now thanks to a very generous pal of mine and I’m delighted with it.
Spec wise it’s the upgrade I wanted from the S620 – it has 3G and GPS along with a neat new keypad and the rollerball from Blackberry. The keypad is excellent with one small exception – the placement of the tab key to the left of the A key. It takes some getting used to but it’s hard to see where else they’d have put it. The rollerball too takes some time to get used to but with a modification of the settings to make it roll faster it’s a great addition.
The other surprising “addition” is the slimness of the unit – only 12mm thick and 120 grams. Full specs are on the HTC site and perhaps the only disappointment is the 2mp camera. For those in the US, the device is known as the T-Mobile HTC Dash 3G (or Dash 3G I expect).
The Snap sports HTC’s Inner Circle button which is a neat idea. Basically a button that fires up a dedicated email interface showing only emails from individuals you specify. Handy for my job for sure…and as Wired says, this really is a business phone more than a consumer device.
All in all, I’m very happy with the Snap. Okay it’s not a touch screen device in the current vogue but for what I need it’s the perfect balance of size, weight, features and battery life. It uses mini USB and MicroSD so no changes needed for me on that front and I’m optimistic there’ll be a 6.5 upgrade for the device. That should see me right until the Windows Mobile 7 phones come to market.
Final thing…what am I running on my device? The four apps below plus Twikni and a few others.
