My new laptop has arrived

image

…sadly it’s only arrived at the Sony Store, not at my house. Quite tempting though..

The Vaio X weighs just 1.5lbs and is 1.5 inches thin. Two USB ports, Ethernet, SD slot etc. It also runs a nice 2ghz processor, has a chiclet keyboard (like the older TZ and TT), 2GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD drive. Ticks all the boxes then. Oh and it comes in carbon fibre.

I’m actually pretty surprised in price. $1299 in the US though I bet it’s at least that in £ when it comes to the UK.

Looks nice - I've been wanting to buy an ultraportable for a while, too. But here are the things that make this a "no" for me:
  1. Atom (should be CULV)
  2. VGA (should be HDMI)
  3. GMA500 (should be ION) For the price point, I think Sony should have up-spec'd it. I especially like the retro VGA connector - seriously, how many people who are willing to spend $1300 on an ultraportable are also going to have an old monitor not capable of DVI or HDMI? I also had higher hopes for the battery life. When Sony originally announced it, they promised superlative battery life. Now they are spec'ing it at 3.5 hours. That's ordinary, not extraordinary.
