Hi Andrea,
Thank you for reaching out to us on the Microsoft Q&A platform.
This can be the result of difficulties you're experiencing when generating a new document. To fix the problem with creating a new document, please try the following.
Check Your Internet Connection:
● Make sure your Internet connection is working. At times MS 365 requires an active connection, particularly while interacting with OneDrive and the other cloud apps.
Sign Out and Sign Back In:
Sometimes, signing out and signing back in resolves issues like these.
- Open any app in MS 365 (Word, Excel, and so on).
- Look to the upper right of your app where your initials or profile picture is displayed.
- Click on sign out and then sign in again.
Clear Your Browser Cache (For web app):
If you are accessing Word Online on a browser, clearing your cache may help resolve a cached error:
- Remove cookies and cache from the browser.
- Use another browser or incognito mode to check whether the problem is still there.
- If you're using a specific browser, try switching to a different one to see if the issue persists.
Check OneDrive Sync:
- Ensure there are no sync errors or warnings by opening the OneDrive app (if you are using the desktop version of the app) as it must be properly synced and connected at all times.
- Not syncing with OneDrive could stop you from adding or editing documents.
Check Permissions:
- If you're using a work or school account, ensure that you have the necessary permissions to create documents in OneDrive
Repair Office Installation:
You may want to consider repair options for Office. This strategy is effective when dealing with issues stemming from file damage. Repairing Office on Windows is as follows:
- Go to Settings and select Apps.
- Select Apps & features.
- Click on Repair and choose the type of repair you want.
