From time to time my RDP connection gets lost and I am unable to reconnect unless I restart the VM. Please see the detailed error message down below.

I am connecting using a static IP and haven't had this problem before, it all started fairly recently after I reinstalled my home PC (Windows 11 Home). Both my local PC and Azzure VM are up to date.

So far I've tried:

  1. Changing RPD display settings (resolution, color), disabling "Persitent bitmap caching" etc.
  2. Connected via Serial console to verify that TermService was running (it was) and tried restart it manually
    tasklist /svc | findstr /C:TermService
    taskkill /F /PID [process_id]
    net start TermService
  3. Resetting password / configuration only under Help > Reset Password
  4. Running through Troubleshooting under Support + Troubleshooting. The only clue I got was that my VM did not respond to a port scan of port '3389', which is the default port for RDP connection.

    Hi,
Thank you for providing those suggestions. Unfortunately, the issue still persists.

    It is a Windows VM.
Verified that there is a rule that allows TCP connections on port 3389.
    inbound rdp allowed

Verified that TermService is running on port 3389 and no other service is blocking this connection.
    active connections

Renew the RDP self-signed certificate as described here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/azure/virtual-machines/windows/troubleshoot-rdp-internal-error?source=recommendations

The issue usually appears when I temporarily disconnect from the internet/VPN and then trying to reconnect.
