Vista Release Date

Word on the street is that Vista will be on target for January - although no date has been set.

Microsoft UK Statement: "Microsoft are targeting Windows Vista availability for volume license customers in November 2006 and general availability in January 2007, although the exact delivery date will be subject to achieving quality metrics based on customer feedback."

The imminent release of RC1 will be a good acid test to whether the industry will believe us.

Blake, like you I'm disappointed by dropped features in Vista and I'm not ignoring them.  Will the market be patient while we iron out bugs with the current feature set - i think so.  Would they be patient with longer delays because we include features that are not ready yet - I'm not sure.

I'm not offended by the industry not believing us, in fact I understand them given the recent history you mention.  RC1 will give people visibility as to whether the product is ready and show them that it will be on time according to the latest schedule.
